This story was really cute and highly enjoyable. This is the story of Ben who ran the family orchard. He was about to loose the orchard to auction, due to a stipulation on his grandfather's will. He must be married by a certain time or he would loose the Orchard. Chelsea worked as the bookeeper and overheard Ben's conversation with his grandmother. She of all people, shy and reserved, offered to help Ben out with a condition of her own. She was willing to marry him, with the condition that she get pregnant and have a baby. It seemed like a logical solution to their problem so they both agree. After they get married, new rules are being introduced. They have to get to know each other before becoming intimate. They begin their process and play house. They soon both discover things about each other and spend lots of time together. Their little agreement soon becomes very fun and they are both having a great time. With dread, their agreement seems to be coming to an end because she appears to be pregnant.
Without thinking too hard, you can probably guess the ending...... But still, it was really cute, enjoyable and nice and light reading. No big dramas.

His Wife for a While eBook Donna Fasano Reviews
In another thoroughly enjoyable story from the pen of Donna Fasano, this audiobook version of His Wife for A While was the perfect afternoon listen who can resist a sweet romance when the week gets too long?
Meet Chelsea bookkeeper at the family orchard owned by Ben. With the recent death of his grandfather, Ben has some unusual conditions that he must meet to finalize the terms of the will, and save the orchard. Chelsea has overheard the discussions about this strange "condition" of the will Ben must marry to keep his inheritance.
With narration provided with the perfect amount of emotional remove and insecurity while voicing Chelsea, and the hints of utter bewilderment featured in Ben's interactions with her, Mary Lynn Bowen manages to incorporate the character's emotions without overwhelming use of inflection or tone; providing an enhancement and not a distraction to the author's words.
Chelsea is a bit difficult to appreciate, until she allows herself to remember the difficult times, and be vulnerable her standoffish manner is easily misinterpreted as cold and calculating, not a defensive mechanism. With the addition of the narration, Bowen manages to convey the turmoil that is hidden within Chelsea, her deep insecurities and her inability to believe in herself. Ben is trying very hard to understand and give her the understanding she needs, but even he is often stymied at what to do. His general affable character and honest appreciation of Chelsea, his appreciation of the family and orchard, and even his underlying good humor all come through in his characterization, and make his character even more perfect a fit for Chelsea.
What feels like it could easily translate into a rather calculated means to an end plan concocted by Chelsea is quickly turned upside down, as she learns to trust and grow confident in her own worth; especially when seen through Ben's eyes. This is a wonderful short and sweet romance that will leave you smiling.
I received an audiobook copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review all conclusions are my own responsibility.
An extremely touching and heart warming story that will make you very happy that you read it.
Chelsea Carson had a dream. Once this dream was accomplished, she would never be lonely again. Chelsea works at Reed's Orchards. She has for many years. She's the bookkeeper.
Ben Danver is the owner, well, new owner. Five generations of Danvers have owned the orchard. His grandfather just passed on and now it will be his...well, except for one stipulation in the will.
Chelsea is completely professional in her work. She does an excellent job. Her books are always in order. She is also extremely shy, keeps to herself, has very low self esteem and thinks Ben is cute. She might even have the answer to his problems. It depends on how receptive he will be to her suggestion. She is deathly afraid that he will reject it and her. She always keeps an emotional distance to keep from being hurt by anyone.
Through a series of events...Ben and Chelsea come to know one another. Both are afraid to display their inner feelings.
As this story unfolds, you will find yourself drawn in. It covers so many subjects that are worthwhile. Feelings of insecurity, lack of love, and most importantly child abuse in its various forms. This is an emotional heart tugging story. For people who love romance, children, and surviving the odds. You won't be disappointed at all.
I'm pretty sure that I read this story when it was originally released by Harlequin. Though it still reads like a Harlequin of old (love scenes behind closed doors, relatively short novel) Fasano's updates for this edition keep the story from being dated.
The angst in the story comes from Chelsea's feelings of being unloved as a child. When the story begins, she offers to enter into a temporary, mutually beneficial marriage with Ben because she wants a child but doesn't believe that she will ever find love. Her feelings stem from an abusive childhood that she is slow to reveal to Ben because she's both ashamed and afraid of being hurt. His patience and kindness toward her result, of course, in her falling in love with him.
The sweetness in the story comes from Ben's gentle handling of Chelsea. When she first suggests the temporary marriage arrangement, Ben thinks that Chelsea is cold and unfeeling, and she does nothing to dispel that idea. Although she wants him to give her a baby, he insists that they get to know each other first. His compassion and caring make him a rather likable guy. One of the things I appreciated about the story is that Chelsea is attracted to him, but it's not about his perfect looks and killer body; it's about who he is and how he treats her.
Fasano's writing is smooth and polished.
